Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative including angels, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Revealing details for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might appear unsuited, but the events of the third episode show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The traitor then cleared his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could help the team access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and Wicander defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the clan.

This means them few options but to head to the northern region in search of Casimir.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Explorers and Planners parties.

Viewers can look forward to finding out which players will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
