Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his first championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult year, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Now training with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden championship following the Italian tournament and first on a hard court after March of the previous year.

The win also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my children together, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, including in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's defensive approach and recurring emotional displays on court had prompted observers to wonder if his capacity to perform at the highest level was over.

But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and play aggressively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, winning 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The pair traded service breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his first ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

The opponent saved 4 initial opportunities in a close final set before Medvedev broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner clinched victory with a point at the net, with Moutet unable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
